Brainworx! Virtual Learning Program

Brainworx! is Start2Finish's accessible, trauma-informed virtual learning program — an online solution that empowers youth to be well and thrive, no matter where they are.

Through Brainworx! kids can learn and have fun in a safe, online environment. Hosted on Start2Finish’s fully customized technology platform, students have easy and secure access to the sessions and materials.

Developed by our in-house pedagogist and other child development experts using our Positive Education curriculum framework, Brainworx! runs two sessions per week through 30–40 minute virtual "pods" facilitated by trained volunteer mentors. It can run as a standalone program or in conjunction with the Running & Reading Club+ in-person sessions.

Program Objectives:

Brainworx! empowers children to:

  • Identify strengths

  • Acquire capacities (self-awareness, creativity, self/relationship management, decision making, resilience, growth mindset, etc.)

  • Develop coping skills and become resilient learners and leaders

  • Build community and a sense of belonging

  • Set goals, track progress, and receive positive reinforcement

  • Participate in activities that create predictability and develop regulation

Positive Education

In Canada, according to UNICEF, many children are experiencing high grades but reporting low levels of life satisfaction. Positive education is defined as education for both traditional skills and happiness.

Program Benefits:

Mentorship

When children have a known, safe space to be themselves and caring, trusted adult role models who believe in them, they build the confidence and sense of belonging needed to reach their potential.

Literacy

When children see themselves and their communities reflected in what they read, they develop a greater enjoy-ment of reading, engage more deeply with literacy, and build the confidence to see themselves as capable readers.

Growth Mindset

Teaching children that ability grows with effort and practice helps them see setbacks as opportunities to improve rather than reasons to give up, building resilience that extends well beyond the program.

Movement & Physical Activity

Regular movement reduces stress and activates “feel good” endorphins, building physical stamina, improving cognitive function, fostering confidence, and giving children a sense of accomplishment they carry into every other part of their lives

Parent Engagement

Parents/caregivers have the opportunity to engage in the program and benefit as well. Through literacy and social-emotional learning resources, parents can enhance their own skills and connect with their child(ren) through weekly discussions and challenges.

Brainworx! removes barriers to participation by meeting children where they are — online, at home, and on their schedule. It is especially impactful for children in remote or underserved communities where in-person programming is not available.
