Start2Finish Earns Global Recognition as a Top Literacy Organization at the 2025 World Literacy Summit

Start2Finish is proud to share an exciting milestone in our journey to break the cycle of poverty through literacy and education. This April, at the 2025 Biannual World Literacy Summit held at Oxford University, Start2Finish was recognized as one of the top six literacy organizations in the world by the World Literacy Foundation—a prestigious honour selected from over 100 submissions worldwide.

As a finalist and first runner-up for the World Literacy Award, Start2Finish was celebrated for its national impact in promoting literacy, equity, and educational access for Canadian children living in under-resourced communities. This international recognition reflects the strength and innovation of our programs and the unwavering support of our community of advocates, partners, volunteers, and donors.

The World Literacy Summit is the largest global convening of literacy leaders, gathering delegates from over 85 countries, including NGO leaders, researchers, educators, academics, government officials, and literacy advocates. Together, they represent over two-thirds of the world’s population, united under a shared goal: ensuring that every child—regardless of geography or socioeconomic status—has the opportunity to read, thrive, and reach their full potential.

Start2Finish was acknowledged for our dynamic, whole-child approach to literacy, which combines physical activity, mental well-being, mentorship, and academic support through free after-school programs like the Running & Reading Club and Brainworx. With 26 programs currently running in communities across Canada, we are committed to expanding our reach to ensure no child is left behind.

This global spotlight is not only a moment of celebration—it is a testament to the impact that collective action can achieve. Our heartfelt thanks go to the dedicated staff, volunteers, school partners, and every supporter who champions the right to literacy for all children.

As we look ahead, we remain focused on growing our impact, deepening our programs, and reaching more communities with the support of those who believe in this mission. The road ahead is bright—and we’re just getting started.

Together, we are building a future where every child in Canada has the literacy skills, confidence, and support they need to succeed.
